ARTIST’s STATEMENT

Patricia (Pat) Tuglus

"I don't really paint like anyone else I know.  When I painted in the style of others, I was never satisfied.  I woke up to this when I completed my certificate in botanical illustration and immediately decided that it was not the direction I wanted to go artistically.  After that, I gave myself permission to discover my own style.

My painting style is intuitive. I rarely do preliminary sketches and when I do, it consists of only a few lines or blocks of color.  For me, conscious planning forms a roadblock.

When painting a landscape or an abstract I allow the spirit of its nature to soak into my being, where it waits to direct it's essence through the paint and onto the paper.  It creates it's own existence, flowing colors and melding into an agreement of the finished painting."
